Homeopathy
In 47 states, a license to practice medicine is all a physician needs in order to
incorporate homeopathic therapeutics into his or her practice. However, in Arizona,
Connecticut, and Nevada, one needs to apply to the state licensing board to obtain a
license to practice homeopathy. Board certification in homeopathy for physicians and
non-physicians has also been available from the American Board of Homeotherapeutics since
1960.

The Council has been evaluating homeopathic educational training for the past 14 years.
They provide a list of beginner, intermediate, and advanced homeopathic training programs
that they have accredited. Note: there is no currently recognized national standard for
homeopathic education.

Comprehensive Professional Course
This course is a four year, part-time course offered to all licensed health care
practitioners. The course meets in four-day sessions nine times a year for four years, for
a total of 36 sessions or 860 hours. The student learns theory, history, philosophy,
materia medica and practical aspects of patient management.

This foundation offers introductory and intermediate courses in homeopathy. There is a
strong clinical and practical emphasis.
National Center for Homeopathy

This center offers a beginner level homeopathic course for professionals and the lay
people during the summer. They have also offered board certification (D.Ht.) to medical
doctors and osteopaths since 1960. In order to be eligible one must have 150 hours of
approved homeopathic education credits and have practiced homeopathy for a minimum of
three years.

This organization was founded in 1844. It publishes the Journal of the American
Institute of Homeopathy and maintains a list of members who will serve as preceptors for
students, residents, and physicians interested in clinical experience in homeopathic
practice.
