Specialist, Author & Health Policy Advisor
Dr. Lee’s involvement within the healthcare
system is wide reaching with work in medical policy and management, science and
technology, academia and clinical practice, to top it all, he is a firm
believer in the healing ministry.
A native of Malaysia,
Dr. Lee first came to the US
on a scholarship to attend Harvard University and subsequently to Columbia University
College of Physicians
& Surgeons. He trained in surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital and pursued his
ENT residency at Harvard-Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, teaching at
Harvard and the University
of Washington before
joining the faculty at the Yale School of Medicine, where he is associate
clinical professor. He is chief of otolaryngology and former president of the
medical staff and chairman of the medical board at the Hospital
of St. Raphael in New Haven. Dr. Lee is a managing partner of
Southern New England Ear, Nose, Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery Group, LLP.
He is also president and CEO, Medical Support Company, LLC, having designed
surgical instruments for pituitary and for ear surgeries and voice prosthesis
for post-laryngectomy patients.
His work within medical policy includes the recent sponsorship of a
Bipartisan Presidential Healthcare Solution Summit, September 13, 2004, in
conjunction with Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies,
International Institute for Health Promotion, American University, Washington,
D.C. He is a senior healthcare policy
advisor to US presidential candidates and chair to the 4800 Healthcare Solution
Task Force in 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections. He is past vice-chair of a
federally funded HMO.
His leadership roles in various
organizations reflect his commitment and respect within the field. He is
currently the president of the Deafness Research Foundation Centurions, the
coordinator for International Affairs at the American
Academy of Otolaryngology, Head &
Neck Surgery, and a past treasurer and
past president of the American
Academy of
Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery/Foundation (representing 98% of all the
ear, nose & throat doctors in the country).
In 1992, he received the AAO Presidential Citation in Otolaryngology in Washington, D.C.
Widely published and lectured
nationally and internationally on scientific, medical/surgical topics as well
as on health policy and the business of medicine. One of his 19 books, “Essential
Otolaryngology,” is considered one of the most widely read texts in the field
of ear, nose and throat in the world and has been translated into several
languages. He has endowed the Mrs. C.T.
Lee Foundation at the Hospital
of St. Raphael in the
memory of his mother, a firm believer in the Healing Ministry of Christ.
